Prerequiste

Ensure to check your model number, which must be:

  • HTC One X10

  • Phone Should be Charged

How to Unlock Bootloader of HTC One X10

Step 1: Firstly we need to unlock bootloader of the device. Visit www.htcdev.com/bootloader, Login with your account (Make sure that you have already registered the account with HTC Dev and your PC must have HTC Sync Manager already installed.

Step 2: Find your device on the ‘Unlock Bootloader’ page, and select your model. Select the option ‘All other supported Models’, and then confirm the dialogue boxes that appears on the screen during the process.

Step 3: Now, there are four steps involved following the above mentioned process. First of all, disconnect the HTC One X10 from Computer, turn off the device, and then start it in the bootloader mode while pressing and holding the Volume Down+Power button simultaneously.

Step 4: Now, you need to select the Fastboot mode. Once device entered to the bootloader mode, use Volume Up and Volume Down keys to select the Fastboot option, and then press power button to confirm. Now, it’s time to connect HTC One device to the computer through USB Cable.

Step 5: Now, navigate to the fastboot folder, which created after extracting the toolkit downloaded. Right click on any empty space, and then ‘Open command Window here.’, and enter the following command

After running this command, then HTC One model should be displayed on the screen, if drivers are properly installed. If in case the device doesn’t shown on the screen, then just reinstall the ‘HTC Sync Manager’>Restart PC and then try again for the same.

Step 6: Follow all of the listed steps on the HTC Dev’s website, and upon submission, HTC will automatically email you the ‘Unlock Token’ for your device. Just you need to downloaded the token, and then rename it to ‘Unlock_code.bin’, and then just place the same into the fastboot folder.

Step 7: There will be message displayed on the screen, for the verification about whether you want to unlock your bootloader. You can use the Volume keys to select the option, and then hit the ‘Power’ button to confirm. Once done, the device will automatically rebooted, and then you will have unlocked bootloader on your HTC One X10 device.

Steps to Flash/ Install TWRP on HTC One X10

Step 1: Assuming you have already downloaded the platform-tools from Android SDK (SDK Manager) platform-tools on your PC. The platform-tools contains the required adb and fastboot binaries.

Step 2: Make sure that the drivers are installed on your computer. Then, skip to the next step.

Note: If Developer Settings and USB Debugging settings are already enabled on your device, as suggested in Prerequisite section, then simply skip the Step 3 and Step 4, and follow Step 5 directly.

Step 3: Now, enable the developer settings on your HTC One X10 Device. To achieve the same, just navigate to the Settings -> About and then find the ‘Build Number ‘, and then tap on ‘Build Number’ for 7 times, this will enable the developer settings on your device.

Step 4: If you have USB Debugging already, then skip this step. If you have not, then open the Developer Options and then enable USB debugging option.

Step 5: Now, open the command prompt in computer/ ADB Terminal, and simply type the command:

adb reboot bootloader

Step 6: Your device should have not entered into fastboot mode. Now copy the TWRP.img file downloaded in prerequisite section, to the same folder where adb and fastboot binaries are located. Rename the file to ‘twrp.img’ and then enter this command:

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

and then run this command, type:

fastboot reboot

Step 7 (Important): Some devices might not replace the custom recovery automatically during the first boot. You can search Google for key combinations to enter your device into recovery mode. After running the ‘fastboot reboot’ command, press and hold the proper key combination to enter device into TWRP Mode. Once the device boots to TWRP mode, the TWRP will automatically patch the stock ROM, to prevent the chances of replacing TWRP with Stock Recovery.

After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don’t follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.

Procedure to Root HTC One X10/ Install SuperSU

Step 1: Make sure you have unlocked the bootloader using the process described above, and also have downloaded the required files from the prerequisite section.

Step 2: Now, navigate to the zipped toolkit file downloaded above, and then extract it in your PC. Navigate to the folder, and then install ADB and Fastboot Driver on the computer.

Step 3: Now, run the S-droid toolkit.exe file, which is located in the twrp/tool folder.

Step 4: Then, connect device to the computer, with USB Debugging enabled, and either follow the on screen instructions, or type 41 to flash the TWRP. That’s it, this has begun the TWRP flashing process, and it will take few moments to complete.

Step 5: As you are already in ADB after flashing the TWRP, now don’t boot the device from recovery to normal, and directly type ’45’ and then hit ‘Enter’. This will transfer the required files to device, and then boot the HTC One X10 to the TWRP, automatically.

Step 6: Now, click on ‘Backup’ and create ‘Nandroid’ backup, and then perform the factory reset.

Step 7: Install and select the ‘No verity’ app from the device’s storage, and confirm the install. Once again, navigate to the ‘Install’ and then select the file ‘xnmagic’ which is located in Device’s storage i.e. storage>sdcard, and then confirm the installation.

Step 8: That’s done! Now reboot the device, if it will boot into the recovery once again, then simply use the option ‘Reboot system now’ and that completes the process.

Congratulations, now you have rooted HTC One X10 and also flashed the TWRP. Now, you can install Xposed Framework, and customize your smartphone as per your preference. If you wish to verify, you may download and check the Root Status through Root Checker app.
