Steps to Flash/ Install TWRP on Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL

Step 1: Assuming you have already downloaded the adb and Android USB Drivers, and minimal ADB and Fastboot on your PC. The tools contains the required adb and fastboot binaries.

Step 2: Now, install the Asus Bootloader unlock (.apk), as provided in the prerequisite section above, as a normal app. This is mandatory in order to root unlock the bootloader of the device (Just keep following the on-screen messages).

Step 3: Now boot the device into the CSC Mode (fastboot/bootloader), by pressing and holding the Volume UP+Power keys together. Now, connect device to the computer.

Note: If Developer Settings and USB Debugging settings are already enabled on your device, as suggested in Prerequisite section, then simply skip the Step 3 and Step 4, and follow Step 5 directly.

Step 3: Now, enable the developer settings on your Asus Zenfone Max ZC550KL Device. To achieve the same, just navigate to the Settings -> About and then find the ‘Build Number ‘, and then tap on ‘Build Number’ for 7 times, this will enable the developer settings on your device.

Step 4: If you have USB Debugging already, then skip this step. If you have not, then open the Developer Options and then enable USB debugging option.

Step 5: Now, open the command prompt in minimal ADB and fastboot Terminal, and simply type the command:

fastboot devices

Now, hit enter on the keyboard, and it should display the serial number of the device. If in case the serial number is not displaying, then USB drivers are not correctly installed.

Step 6: Now, enter this command:

fastboot flash recovery

after running the above command, press ‘SPACE’ key on the keyboard, and then drag the ‘Custom Recovery/ TWRP’ image to the Minimal ADB Window, press enter. This should have started the flashing process, and it will take few moments to complete the process.

Step 7: After flashing the TWRP, your have to boot your device into the recovery mode, press Volume Down+Power Button, and allow the device to boot into home screen.

Step 8: As soon as the TWRP flash process gets completed, follow the same process to file the ROOT file immediately.

Important Note: If you skip to flash the root file, then your device may encounter a bootloop. If there is a password prompt displayed, as reported by some users, then simply ignore it and flash the root.
